Halloween is a 1978 American independent film, which was directed and produced by John Carpenter and also co written with Debra Hill. The classic film grossed $47,000,000 worldwide whilst having a budget of $325,000. This shows that the film was very successful, becoming one of the most profitable independent films. Most of the other films success is thanks to Halloween, which they most likely got their inspiration from. Due to the success of Halloween it has resulted in an increase in the amount of slasher films being made, which is largely because of its popularity with the audiences.
My Thoughts
As much as I enjoyed watching the three films above the film that stood out to me the most was Scream. This is because its the more recent one of the three and it was violent, bloody, gory and just simply Scream. Key elements of Graeme Burton's theory is applied to Scream. For example: The Protagonists is Sidney (final girl) and the masked killer. In addition, props such as masks and knives have become iconic in teen slasher horror films.
